Abermarlais Caravan Park

9972e743-2977-42ca-9f6e-6d812993ab9b
JUST off the A40 midway between Llandeilo and Llandovery, Abermarlais is built in the grounds of a former manor house (long since gone) and set in 18 acres of grounds.

It features 88 pitches set on grass, with 46 benefiting from electric hook-up. The access road is a bit pot-holed and at the time of our visit it had been raining heavily, and care would be needed when parking a large motorhome to avoid sinking in.

On-site is a very well equipped shop offering groceries, gifts for the kids, camping basics (such as washing up liquid and kitchen towel) and even a few touring accessories (like mallets and awning pegs). It also sells camping gas. This building also houses the reception area, and you’re sure of a warm welcome thanks to the charming and friendly owner.

To the rear of the reception area is an outdoor play area for children, which is immaculately neat and features slides, swings and a wooden climbing frame. There’s also a grassed court laid out, which is ideal for badminton or soft ball.

This area of the park is bordered by tall hedging and was the walled garden of the former Abermarlais estate – it’s ideal if you have kids as you can easily keep an eye on them here. From this area you walk past two large and impressive circular columns to enter the main touring area.

This larger camping field is bordered by trees on one side and a river on the other. As this is only a few feet deep, it’s ideal for kids to paddle about in. Some of the pitches in this area have a slight slope, so levelling blocks / steadies will be needed.

The toilet block is of pebble-dashed construction, but it is clean and relatively modern in design. Outside it has a covered dish-washing area.

As the park is bordered by woodland, there are lots of walks in the forest to be enjoyed and plenty of places to explore.

While the on-site shop does offer a wide range of food, the nearest village in which to dine out is one-and-a-half miles away at Llangadog, which offers several good pubs. Equally, the market towns of Llandeilo and Llandovery are close by.

Nearby attractions include the Aberglasney Gardens and the National Botanic Garden Centre.

Overall, the key appeal this site is its appeal to nature lovers, its peace and tranquillity and the thoughtful provision of equipment and features to suit families.
