Best activities for caravanners
Inspiration
These caravan holiday activities are the perfect way to make the most of your time away
Let’s face it – one of the biggest joys of caravanning isn’t just the caravan itself, or even the pitch (lovely as it may be), but the freedom to pack up, get on the road and follow whatever adventure takes your fancy.
Whether you're someone who seeks a little more adventure, or a hardcore chillaxer, caravanning offers the ideal base for a whole range of activities.
So, here are some of the best ways to make the most of your caravan holiday:
Fishing
There’s something undeniably calming about setting up at the edge of a lake and simply… waiting.
This is why fishing is so popular among caravanners, especially when your pitch is a mere second away from water.
Whether you’re into coarse fishing, fly fishing, or just fancy seeing what bites, plenty of campsites have access to fishing lakes or are close to some brilliant spots.
Water sports
For those with a need for speed (or at least a bit more splash), wakeboarding is a perennial favourite – it is certainty mine.
Lakes, lochs and coastal areas across the UK offer wakeboarding, paddleboarding, kayaking and even sailing – all within easy reach of many caravan-friendly campsites.
Golfing
There’s no shortage of fantastic golf courses across the UK and many campsites often have their own.
Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or an amateur (like me), squeezing in nine, or 18, holes is a great way to unwind and explore a new part of the country.
Birdwatching
Birdwatching is a quiet kind of joy that fits caravanning perfectly.
Bring your binoculars, a flask (full to the brim of tea) and head for a local nature reserve or coastal path.
From red kites to puffins, the UK has some of the best birding spots in Europe and many campsites sit right on the edge of wildlife areas.

Walking
All the greatest philosophers, Aristotle, Nietzsche and Kierkegaard had one thing in common – a passion for walking.
Walking helps us live longer, strengthens our bones and improves our immune system. I could go on and on about the benefits of walking, as it is undoubtably one of the greatest ways to explore the UK and keep yourself healthy.
Whether it’s a gentle meander through meadows or a more demanding hill walk, walking is a brilliant way to see the countryside.
Festivals
More caravanners are combining touring with festivals.
Whether it’s a vintage car show, a music festival or even a food and drink weekender, there are countless events happening all over the UK that welcome caravans.
Cycling
If walking’s not quite fast enough, cycling is the perfect upgrade. Many campsites are near cycle routes – from family-friendly trails to more challenging terrain.
Electric and folding bikes are becoming increasingly popular with caravanners short on storage space, but even a standard hybrid or mountain bike can make a big difference to how far you can explore.

Do nothing
Last, but not least, don’t underestimate the value of just sitting outside and watching the world go by.
Sometimes, the best activity is to do nothing – a book, a glass of something chilled (or wine) and the sound of birds singing.
Whatever your pace, there’s an activity for everyone
Caravanning isn’t about ticking boxes – it’s about doing things on your terms.
So, whether you’re planning your next weekend away or summer holiday, think beyond the pitch.
The UK is full of great tourism destinations – and your caravan is the perfect way to find them.
