Ray Mears helps launch nature trail at Evesham touring park
Television bushcraft expert Ray Mears joined a Worcestershire holiday park business to officially unveil a new countryside trail designed to showcase the area's rich wildlife and natural beauty.
Leading almost 100 walkers, Ray guided participants along the four-mile route, which begins at Offenham Park and follows a network of public footpaths and nearby nature reserves through some of the county's most picturesque landscapes.
The launch event brought together park guests, local residents, visitors from across the region, and members of the Pilling family, who have owned and operated the holiday parks for more than 25 years.
Located opposite each other, Offenham Touring Park welcomes touring visitors, while Offenham Park is home to privately owned holiday homes. The trail's footpaths are already used for the parks' regular guided wardens' walks.
During the three-hour launch event, TV naturalist Ray showcased the route's wildlife and natural highlights:
This remarkable landscape is subtle, but incredibly rich in natural discoveries along its rivers, and through its fields and hedgerows. Here you very quickly feel connected to the rhythm of the countryside, and reminds us that you don’t have to travel to the far corners of the world to experience something special.
Guests can also enjoy easy access to the River Avon and the neighbouring Windmill Hill Nature Reserve, renowned for its wildflowers and abundance of butterflies and other pollinators.
Founded by Karen and Craig Pilling, the family-run parks sit alongside the Fish and Anchor pub, also owned by the Pillings. Daughter-in-law Lauren said the new trail reflects the family's ongoing commitment to creating benefits for both visitors and the wider community.
Our new walking trail has already put the spotlight on the Vale of Evesham as a perfect holiday destination for walkers and lovers of the natural world, and that's just what we hoped. We're also very pleased to be able to offer access to the trail from our touring park to local families and schools; it's a fantastic collaborative project all round.
