The Warwick Duo is a proven model in Auto-Sleepers’ established line-up of seven Peugeot-based van conversions – and baby brother to the Warwick XL (also with a two-berth rear lounge format, but longer at 6.36m). All currently get Euro 6b engines – 2-litre units boasting 160bhp – but with costlier Euro 6d 2.2-litre versions waiting in the wings for 2020.

Cab spec includes an extensive list of goodies as part of the £2,500 Premium Pack, without which no Warwick Duo is ever likely to leave captivity at the Cotswold factory. That pack adds Peugeot’s integrated DAB radio with sat-nav, alloy wheels, Al-Ko Air Top suspension, cab air-conditioning, a Thule Omnistor awning, a colour reversing camera with LCD screen, cruise control and a 80W solar panel.

You’ll instantly recognise any Auto-Sleeper van conversion not only for its comprehensive spec, but for its flush athermic glass side windows – the company uses the Boxer window van as a base rather than a panel van with the addition of the usual plastic double-glazing. There are four exterior colours to choose from – white, blue, silver or Champagne.

The Warwick Duo, like its sister models, also comes with items that many rivals charge extra for – an underfloor 25-litre gas tank is particularly worthwhile as it’ll save you money on refills, avoid having to carry heavy cylinders and it also frees up storage space inside.

An external barbecue point is included, too, but you’ll still want to add the Winter Pack (cab blinds, heater upgrade, water tank heaters and wheelarch insulation) and, perhaps, the Media Pack (Mecatronic 65cm satellite system with automatic tuning and capability of receiving transmissions from Astra 1, 2 and 3 and Hotbird).

The layout is one that is sure to suit couples downsizing or changing from a touring caravan. The dominant feature is the rear lounge with two long settees. It also comes with scatter cushions and armrests, reading lights and a choice of tables.

Auto-Sleepers even fits a press-studded draught excluder for the rear barn doors, so you can stretch out here whatever the weather is doing outside. Combi 6 gas/electric heating is a potent fitting for such a compact vehicle, too, and the Warwick Duo meets the Grade III standard for insulation. In summer, you’ll be able to let the fresh air flood in via those back doors.

The bathroom is sited, unusually, adjacent to the sliding side door – it and the galley effectively swap places here compared with key rivals (and the Warwick XL). It includes a simple plastic tip-up washbasin, bench cassette toilet and shower. Water tanks measure 69 litres for fresh and a modest 40 litres for waste.

The galley has plenty of worktop and a generous spec – it’s probably the Duo’s best aspect. The cooker boasts three gas rings and a combined oven/grill, plus an extractor hood. There’s an eye-level microwave, too, and an automatic energy selection fridge, as well as little details like the kitchen roll holder. What really sets this galley apart, however, is the acreage of worktop on which the chef can get creative.

At night, the rear lounge converts into single beds (1.85m by 0.68m) or a double (1.87m by 1.85m – manufacturer’s figures). There’s an overhanging wardrobe on the nearside, under which you tuck your toes, so heads go to the back of the campervan. Of course, this is a pure two-berth (with no rear travel seats), but the swivel passenger cab seat does give you somewhere to read while your partner has a lie-in.

There’s plenty to admire with the Warwick Duo, not least the spacious kitchen galley, which is kitted out with everything you need and boasts lots of worktop space. Standard spec is good, though you’ll no doubt want to add the Premium Pack to get extras such as cruise control and a DAB radio.
