Adria’s Twin set the template for imported fixed bed van conversions in the UK. In some ways, it still sets the standards by which the increasing number of its rivals are judged.
For 2019, the big news was the introduction of an overcab sunroof on Twin Supreme versions. It’s not a unique touch (Dreamer and Malibu took a similar tack at the same time) but it certainly makes the interior lighter and more spacious.
However, the latest Twin comes in three trim levels – Axess, Plus and Supreme – and only certain layouts are available in each specification. The 640 SPX, reviewed here for example, comes only as a Plus model, priced from £46,925, but to which you’ll want to add Adria’s Pack 2 (cab air-conditioning, passenger airbag, cruise control, front foglamps, leather steering wheel, ESP, Traction Plus and Hill Descent Control) for an additional £2,590.
The example seen here at Brownhills also boasted the Luxury Pack (alloy wheels, central cupholders, DAB radio with sat-nav, spare wheel, reversing camera, roof rack and awning) at £3,060 and metallic paint for £890 – choose from silver, grey, black or a snazzy bright orange if you want to stand out.
But it’s inside that the Twin Plus shows its innovation. It may not come with a big window above the windscreen but neither does it have the usual overcab shelf or locker. As a result, there’s full-height walk-through without stooping as you go from the half-dinette lounge into the cab seats.
The acute angle of the tabletop further eases access through to the cab seats and, while the half-dinette format here is as expected, the whole area feels a lot more spacious. The pale colouring of the Sandy White finish further enhances that roomy impression, while the rear travel seats are well shaped for the comfort of passengers and cupholders recessed into the table are another neat touch.
It’s not just about the details, though. The 640 SPX may have a Fiat Ducato panel van as its base (here in extra-long 6.36m form) and a transverse fixed double bed floorplan, but it is also the only model in Adria’s van conversion line-up with a separate shower – something rarely seen in this size/class of motorhome.
As in many coachbuilts, the shower (offside) sits opposite the toilet room (on the nearside). Doors to both areas open round to create a full-width washroom and, while the (necessarily compact) size of the shower won’t suit everyone, it’s a great feature for those who prefer their own facilities to shared ones on a campsite. Meanwhile, the toilet sits on a plinth, so you’ll need long legs to sit comfortably, while the washbasin is neatly hidden behind a mirror and hinges out for use. All clever stuff.
The kitchen is in the usual place, adjacent to the offside sliding door, and includes three XXL-sized drawers, as well as a small, hinged worktop flap and a combination hob/sink with unequal-sized burners. An Isotherm compressor fridge with generous 115-litre capacity is opposite with the wardrobe above.
You won’t be able to sit up in the 1.96m by 1.48m transverse rear double bed because of the stylish top lockers mounted on three sides but the bed uses the full width of the Fiat motorhome (unlike some) and has neat recessed strip lights at either end.
Of course, there’s a large boot area underneath, although here it was partially filled by the two infill cushions and wooden panel required to turn the dinette into an optional third berth.

Our Verdict
The Twin Plus impresses with its innovation - this is a model with lots of clever design aspects and smart details. It stands out from the rest of Adria’s van conversion range because it’s the only one to have a separate shower.
