Win Webbox treats for your campervan-loving dog

Now that summer is in full swing, you’ll be enjoying a barbecue or two when the sun is shining. No doubt your favourite four-legged friend is likely to be very excited by the delicious-smelling food and just waiting for something to fall off the grill.

However, barbecue food can be really dangerous for pets for the following reasons:

  • Most barbecue foods contain high salt levels. Apart from making pets extremely thirsty, salt can cause high temperatures and sometimes even seizures, in extreme cases
  • Animals can get all sorts of nasty bacteria from meat that is not properly cooked, including salmonella and listeria, which can result in very upset stomachs at the very least
  • The bones in barbecue food can get stuck in your dog’s intestines or stomach and even splinter inside, which can cause a whole host of internal damage and can even result in death
  • Burnt meat The carbonisation on the outside of charred barbecue meat can cause stomach upsets for our pets and some experts have even cited this as a cause of cancer. Instead, make sure you have plenty of tasty dog treats and food on hand to allow your pooch to enjoy the barbecue fun with you, without risking their health!

Dog-friendly campsites of the month

Skye Camping & Caravanning Club Site, Isle of Skye

This beautiful campsite in the Isle of Skye is the idyllic location for the most stunning campsite view. Pitch up right on the loch shore and take in the glorious views over the water. While enjoying the scenery, pop to the on-site shop where you can find your everyday essentials including freshly laid duck and hen eggs.

The Isle of Skye is the perfect place for countryside walks with your four-legged pal across the most stunning scenery you'll find.

Whitehill Country Park, Devon

Dogs love nothing more than running free, exploring and seeking out new smells, so they’ll be happy with the 40 acres of countryside at Whitehill Country Park and the many dog-friendly beaches close by.

At Whitehill, there’s also a large dog exercise area, a dog shower, plentiful woodland walks and doggy accessories in the shop. Pets are also welcome in the site’s Haylo Bar, on the terrace and in the café’s outside seating area. If you fancy heading off site, several local pubs and attractions also welcome dogs.
