Wheelhome launches all-electric micro-camper

Renowned specialist in the smallest campervans, Wheelhome, has launched its first fully electric model, the VikenzeIII-e

The new camper, based on the Vauxhall Combo-e Life SE, will make its public debut at the Norfolk Motorhome & Campervan Show on 22-24 July, following extensive testing of the prototype by Wheelhome proprietor, Stephen Wheeler, including a 2,100-mile tour to Shetland and back from the company’s base in Essex.

With an overall length of only 4.4m, the Vikenze III-e is car-sized, especially as overall height with the electric pop-top lowered is just 1.84m. However, it comes as either a one or two-berth campervan, with up to four belted travel seats. The second single bed, when specified, is in the roof.

The Vauxhall base vehicle comes with a 50kWh battery and a maximum power output of 134bhp. Its official range, under WLTP testing, is 174 miles. It can be charged overnight, using a normal campsite hook-up.

Of course, it can be driven on a standard car licence and it has a payload of up to 460kg.

It’s not just the driving that’s electric, however, as this is also a gas-free campervan, with all-electric cooking facilities. Backed up by a 300W solar panel, the latest Wheelhome features a 3,000W inverter and a huge lithium battery bank.

Its kitchen comes with an induction hob, microwave oven and two 230V sockets for your toaster, etc, and, thanks to the campervan’s electrical installation, these can all be used without access to mains hook-up. An 18-litre compressor fridge is also included in the galley.

Other features of the Vikenze III-e include an optional Porta Potti (still accessible with the beds made up) and a 10-litre on-board fresh water carrier.

The Vauxhall base vehicle comes as standard with air-conditioning, cruise control, Bluetooth, heated steering wheel, alloy wheels, privacy glass, 8in display with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

The Vikenze III-e is priced from £56,400. Key options include metallic paint, automatic climate control, underfloor storage and front parking sensors.
