Inside the pages of What Motorhome magazine’s July issue you’ll find our favourite new campervans of 2019. There were plenty of worthy contenders as we considered a wide range of campervans, but which models really impressed us?
We looked at a varied a selection of campervans, whittling the choice down to five categories:
- Best new campervan of 2019 under £50k
- Best new campervan of 2019 over £50k
- Best new campervan conversion of 2019 with fixed bed
- Best new campervan conversion of 2019 without a fixed bed
- Best new family campervan conversion of 2019
Best new campervan of 2019 under £50k - Hillside Birchover S
Derby-based Hillside Leisure is one of the UK’s leading campervan manufacturers and the Birchover S is one of its most popular models. This was our pick of the ‘under £50k’ class, though the price is actually a bracket lower than that, starting from £36,895.
We said: ‘You can be sure that the Birchover S is a safe conversion – and a safe place to invest your money. And, while the ‘S’ is a more affordable version of the typical VW camper, it still has top-quality fittings.’
Best new campervan of 2019 over £50k – Wellhouse Lowdhams Summit
Built by Wellhouse Leisure exclusively for Lowdhams, the starting price for this campervan is just under £48k but because the model What Motorhome tested was £52k, it qualifies for this category – and wins it.
We said: ‘The Summit features the expected elevating roof and a side kitchen layout with its key feature being a German sliding rear travel seat on a series of four rails so that it can be repositioned to create as much luggage room (or lounge/living space) as you want.’
Best new campervan conversion of 2019 with fixed bed – WildAx Elara
Offering a unique layout and the latest Mercedes Benz base vehicle, this is a large and luxurious van conversion that most definitely impressive.
We said: ‘A three-pointed star on your motorhome is a more desirable asset now than it ever has been and WildAx has responded with an unusual conversion that is well-equipped and surprisingly well priced.’
Best new campervan conversion of 2019 without fixed bed – Elddis Autoquest CV20
The Elddis Autoquest CV20 is a remarkable campervan – a brand-new Fiat Ducato van conversion for under £40k. With a UK-pleasing layout and a good kitchen, this is seriously good value.
We said: ‘Probably the best-value new motorhome buy of the 2019 season, the Elddis Autoquest CV20 even makes a lot of pre-owned van conversions look expensive.’
Best new family campervan conversion of 2019 –Dreamer Camper Van XL
Coming out on top in the best family campervan category, the Dreamer Camper Van XL has two double beds, a super-sized fridge, large lounge and a separate shower. Perfect for the campervanning family!
We said: ‘Fixed bed van conversions usually lack lounging room. But changing the usual half-dinette for a more spacious L-settee really has made all the difference in this Dreamer.’
