Wellhouse Leisure to launch Vito-based, Moselle campervan

Vito Tourer PRO, LWB to be used as base vehicle

There’s a new campervan conversion on the way from Wellhouse Leisure, due to be launched in summer. The Moselle will be based on the new Mercedes Vito Tourer PRO with the long wheelbase and rear-wheel drive. The Tourer PRO version has been chosen because it’s more like a car, rather than the van versions, and comes with extras such as factory-fitted swivel seats with twin-armrests for the driver and passenger as well as tinted side windows.

The Moselle will have a gross vehicle weight of 3,200kg and the Euro VI-compliant, 2.143-litre Mercedes 114BlueTEC engine with 136bhp. It comes with six-speed manual transmission but there’s an option for a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The LWB version provides for extra space inside but the vehicle is still on 5.14m long so can be used as an everyday vehicle.

The Mercedes Vito was only launched in the UK in early April, but already has been converted by Horizon MCV of Hull. It features improved fuel economy and latest safety gear like Attention Assist and Crosswind Assist.

Features that will come as standard on the Moselle include 17in alloy wheels, air-conditioning, Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in sockets, iPod interface, multi-function steering wheel, reversing camera, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), Speedtronic cruise control and speed limiter, driver and passenger airbags plus thorax/pelvis and window airbags.

Inside, the layout uses a typical side kitchen and wardrobe arrangement plus the usual Wellhouse, crash-tested, three person rear bench seat that converts into a double bed. It can also move back or forwards to create more living space or room to carry bulky items.

The equipment includes a Dometic fridge, Eberspächer heater; sink and SMEV gas hob, with the option of a mini grill; LED lighting throughout; and an elevating roof, which can be ordered with a bed to sleep two extra people. There’s also a 95W solar panel to keep the leisure battery topped up when not connected to the mains hook-up, plus colour-coded bumpers, door handles and (electric, heated and folding) door mirrors.

The on the road price is expected to be £48,500.
