Weinsberg reveals new motorhomes for 2023

Weinsberg, sister brand of German campervan, motorhome and caravan manufacturer, Knaus, has announced its 2023-season model line-up

As a result of the pandemic, there is currently a shortage of base vehicles on which to build new campervans so, for the coming season, Weinsberg will now offer models built on Ford and Volkswagen, in addition to Fiat.

Brand-new for 2023 are the Ford-based CaraBus and CaraTour campervans, which will be available on the Transit. Compared with Fiat equivalents, Weinsberg claims that the Transit offers 205cm more headroom, and better value for money.

Both of the new Ford-based CaraBus and CaraTour campervans will be available in two layouts – the 550 MQ and 600 MQ – and in a choice of three exterior body colours. Inside, the CaraBus features a light wood finish, while the CaraTour has a CPL aluminium finish.

Both feature a double bed at the rear, accessed via a step, and it is claimed that the bed is a generous 193cm long, thanks to some specially developed side panels. On request, the bed can be extended to 203cm with the addition of a further panel.

Another optional extra is a pop-top roof, which can add a further two berths. This comes in white as standard, but a colour-coded version to match the campervan can also be requested.

Ahead of the bedroom is a fully equipped washroom featuring a heated shower tray and ergonomic washbasin. In the kitchen, there’s a compressor fridge with freezer compartment, which can be accessed from inside and outside the campervan. There’s also a new combined Dometic two-burner hob and sink unit with electric ignition and split glass cover.

In the garage, it is claimed that both the CaraBus and CaraTour benefit from a wider and taller storage area on the Ford compared with Fiat.

The new base vehicle is a 3,500kg chassis to suit all drivers and comes with a 130bhp engine and six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Upgrades to 155bhp or 170bhp are possible, as well as automatic transmission.

The Ford Transit Custom comes with intelligent assistance systems, such as ESP, ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), emergency braking assistance including emergency stop signal and traction control (TCS) as standard. A range of further options are available, such as drowsiness detection, cruise control or lane assist systems.

The new CaraBus and CaraTour will go into production in October this year, and prices are still to be confirmed.

Weinsberg X-Cursion Van

Following in the footsteps of sister brand, Knaus, Weinsberg has also announced an all-new Volkswagen Transporter T6.1-based coachbuilt motorhome, which will be unveiled to the public at the upcoming Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf later this year, and is set to go into production in March 2023.

Named the X-Cursion Van, it will be available in two layouts – the 500 LT and 500 MQ – and in standard or Edition [Pepper] specification.

The 500 LT features a rear washroom with a swivelling wall to separate the shower cubicle from the loo area, which has a flip-down washbasin positioned above the toilet.

Ahead of the washroom is a fixed seating area with two lengthways benches and a table in the middle. With both cab seats swivelled, it is claimed that this lounge area can seat six. The benches also convert to a double bed. For an additional double, to make the 500 LT a four-berth camper, a slide-out bed for the cab can be ordered.

There is also a garage, which is said to measure 90cm by 60cm.

The 500 MQ is different in design in that it features a rear double bed with a central washroom. This is rather innovative, as it features a collapsible shower cubicle using a gas strut and strap system. When the shower cubicle is not required or at night time, in order to make the bed, the shower cubicle is collapsed, and this forms part of the base of the bed. However, when you want a shower, it simply pops up.

Adjacent to the shower cubicle is a washroom, which is always accessible. Below the bed is a garage, and there’s a dinette at the front. To add another two berths, a slide-out bed for the cab can be ordered.

Both layouts feature a kitchen equipped with a sink and a two-burner hob powered by a 5kg gas cylinder, and a 90-litre Thetford compressor fridge. There is also a diesel-fuelled boiler and heating system. Both models feature a wood interior for a warm and cosy feel.

In the Edition [Pepper] specification, there are added features and upgrades, including:

  • 148bhp (150PS) with seven-speed DSG automatic transmission
  • Ascot Grey paint for the cab and side walls with colour-coded bumpers
  • 17in VW alloy wheels
  • Electric wing mirrors
  • LED headlights and daytime running lights
  • Light Assist main beam control
  • Fog lights and cornering lights
  • Heated windscreen washer jets
  • Tyre pressure indicator
  • ACC adaptive cruise control including Front Assist with City Emergency Braking function
  • A colour multifunction display
  • Drowsiness detection
  • Naviceiver VW streaming and internet including reversing camera
  • Multifunction leather steering wheel
  • Height-adjustable original VW seats with twin armrests and lumbar support
  • Heated driver and passenger seats
  • Low-maintenance Active Line Malabar fabric

On the conversion side, there’s a 24in smart TV, ambient lighting and a smartphone interface featuring inductive charging, a flyscreen on the door, awning light, an anthracite awning, panoramic vent window, second garage door, and insulated and heated waste water tank.

Prices are yet to be confirmed.
