Webasto shows new eco-friendly air-conditioning systems

From childhood camping trips to 50-mile hiking challenges in Scotland, Nathaniel is no stranger to outdoor adventure and testing the limits of camping gear.

Expert in heating and cooling appliances, Webasto, is set to launch all-new rooftop air-conditioning systems, with a full presentation planned for the Caravan Salon, 2025.

At the presentation, which will take place at the Webasto stand in hall 13, stand 13A60, the German company will present the conversion of its Cool Top Trail rooftop air-conditioning systems to the refrigerant R32.

The new unit, named the G series due to only being available with environmentally friendly gas, is available in a range of sizes and part of Webasto’s effort to emphasise a ‘great importance to making its products as sustainable as possible’.

The significant change is in the amount of R32. Also known as Difluoromethane (CH₂F₂), R32 is an appealing addition as it has a lower global warming potential of 675 than R410A (2,088) which was previously the most commonly used modern refrigerant on the market.

The New Cool Trails also require a smaller amount of R32 to produce the same amount of cool air. Webasto also says that all three of its new models, the 20G, 24G, and 28G are all 0.5 kilograms lighter than the previous models, but the prices remain the same.

The Cool Top Trail range has a cooling capacity between 2.0 and 3.6 kilowatts for motorhomes, campervans and caravans which are up to 10 metres in length and come with a heat pump as standard which can operate in temperatures as low as -5 degrees C.
