VW California 6.1 makes its UK debut at the NEC
VW’s new California 6.1 campervans will be making UK debuts at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show at the NEC Birmingham from 18 to 23 February.
The 6.1 is the latest generation of the California, and both Ocean and Coast models will be on VW’s stand – 5259 in Hall 5. Also on display will be the Grand California.
The California 6.1 builds on the reputation of the original California, which is one of the most successful vehicles of its kind; over 175,000 have been produced across four generations. This latest model has an updated exterior and interior, together with a host of new safety, convenience and connectivity functions.
Inside, there is a new touchscreen camper control unit, making the vehicle and its functions intuitive. Another new feature is an inclinometer function, which is accessed via the touchscreen. This shows whether the campervan is parked on level ground.
The Ocean tops the range, while new model the Coast features the full kitchenette, heating and manual pop-up roof, offering sleeping for four. Both models are equipped with 2.0-litre TDI engines. Prices for the range start at £55,281 (RRP including VAT and OTR costs).
The Crafter-based Grand California comes in two versions, the 680 and 600. The Grand California 600 has a double bed at the rear and an optional overcab bed for children. The Grand California 680 will be on the stand at the NEC.
To celebrate the UK launch of the California 6.1, VW has teamed up with the Caravan and Motorhome Club to offer the use of a California Ocean for the month of August 2020.
