Volkswagen announce Crafter-based California XXL motorhome

Volkswagen has announced the Crafter-based California XXL motorhome. The vehicle is an XXL version of the original VW California motorhome that features a high top, kitchen and wet room. It is based on a medium wheelbase.

The vehicle is an evolution of the original VW California camper, stemming from a rich heritage from the classic ‘Bulli’ camper. It features a large number of driver assistance systems, “comfortable handling” and low fuel consumption. There is a bed (around two metres long), and a screened off living area. In the front of the van there is a bench seat with front seats that can be rotated 180 degrees. The kitchen features a twin-hob cooker, fridge, sink and extendable work surface. Due to the larger size of the vehicle, there is space for a wet room with a shower and WC.

The redesigned high roof also features special indentations that the company claims will ensure the drag coefficient remains in range of a conventional crafter.
