Visitors to this year’s National Motorhome Show, Peterborough, 25–27 April 2014, will see the launch of Rolling Homes’ new long-wheelbase VW Crafter conversion, the Darwin.
At 6.8m long, this high-top van conversion will offer a lounge at the rear with a washroom and kitchen up front. The rear U-shaped lounge will retain the opening back doors for added flexibility and reclining backs on the sofas enhance relaxing comfort.Standard specification levels will be comprehensive, including habitation air-con, a full-height fridge freezer, onboard gas tanks, Regal leather upholstery, Corian worktops, heater water tanks, solar panel, reversing camera, separate shower and ceramic toilet. Prices are expected to start from around £59,995.
The Shrewsbury-based camper converter is also trialling a new air suspension system on a VW T5. Instead of increasing height, the system will lower the body, enabling easier access for less able-bodied motorhomers.
The system, developed in association with VB Air Suspension, will be self-levelling and is likely to be available as part of the original conversion and as an after-market option.
Mark Cooper of Rolling Homes explained: “A customer liked the idea of a T5 but has an elderly mother that wouldn’t be able to get in and out of the vehicle. So we came up with this solution.” Prices for this are yet to be confirmed.
