Outwell recall 2019 inflatable tents and motorhome awnings from shops

Thousands of new 2019 inflatable tents and motorhome awnings have been recalled from retailers over potential problems with air tubes.

Manufacturer Outwell issued the general recall notice after the problem with several of its 2019 models came to light in March 2019. A small number of campers who have already taken delivery of a new tent or awning will also be affected.

When the problem became apparent, Outwell implemented an action plan that includes contacting campers who have already taken receipt of an affected 2019 model to arrange return, inspection and rectification.

Campers affected are also encouraged to contact their retailer or email Outwell [email protected] for further details if they have not yet received any communication.

Replacement tubes will be fitted in the tents and they are expected to be back in the shops by May.

In a statement, the Scandinavian brand said: "For more than 25 years we have worked hard to achieve and maintain high levels of product quality, service and trust. But we are now truly embarrassed to report we have recently identified an air tube issue that affects a number of our 2019 products and that we are unable to identify specific batches or models for the tubes are shared between our production facilities.

“As campers ourselves, it has always been our aim to help people enjoy the very best carefree outdoor experience and we humbly apologise for having let campers down by not identifying this problem sooner and our failure to identify the specific models concerned. We believe our only option to ensure we fully address the issue is to make a full recall of potentially affected models for inspection and rectification where required.

“Thankfully, these incidents are rare. But errors do occur, and we would like to assure you that we take these problems very seriously.  We thank you for your understanding and co-operation in helping us meet this challenge and we again apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
