Official motorhome parks in the Algarve
Camping for motorhomers in the Algarve region of Portugal should now be a simpler process with less chance of being fined by the Portugese police. The problem has been that there are numerous unlicensed campsites and that wildcamping can draw fines or cause motorhomers to be moved on, depending on how enthusiastic the local police are.
The Algarve Motorhome Support Network (RAARA) has been launched as a joint venture by the Algarve Regional Development and Coordination Commission (CCDR Algarve), the Algarve Tourism Board (Região de Turismo do Algarve), the Algarve Tourism Associaton (ATA) and the Algarve Inter-municipal Community (AMAL). It offers a list of official urban camping sites, ones out in the countryside and secure motorhome servicing areas. Its main goal is to promote legal accommodation where motorhomers can stop and spend the night in a quality setting featuring comfort and safety. It still only adds up to 22 places where motorhomers can safely park up and enjoy the Algarve but further locations and facilities are expected to be added.
