Car passengers crossing the Channel between Dover and Calais are warned of potential delays to their journeys during the last fortnight of August and the beginning of September as traffic levels reach their peak for the summer period.Lengthy queues are anticipated at border controls in the two ports due to the sheer volume of traffic and the A16 autoroute between Calais and Dunkerque is being re-surfaced which will slow the approach to Calais.
Drivers are urged to:
• Leave enough time to get through the road works and border checks and have passports and booking details ready for inspection
• Aim to get to check in at Dover and Calais at least an hour before their scheduled sailing time
• Remember that there are limited facilities in Calais for refreshments / toilets and to take this into account when planning their journey
