Is this the ultimate off-road motorhome?

The Torsus Praetorian Liberra is said to mix off-road capability with genuine living comfort. Born as a coach for extreme terrain, it is based on a MAN TGM 4x4 with robust tubular skeleton chassis and powered by a six-cylinder diesel engine producing 295hp and a huge 925Nm of torque. But then this is no small motorhome, measuring 8.45m long, 2.53m wide and 3.55m in height. It has a maximum gross weight of 13.5 tonnes.

The MAN base vehicle becomes a Praetorian bus at Torsus in the Czech Republic before being fitted out as a motorhome by Dämmler Weltreisemobile in Zwickau, Germany.

Despite its size, the Liberra is designed to truly go anywhere, with a fording depth of 68cm, three differential locks and a built-in winch. Its high-strength GRP body is finished in a special military proven paint.

On the living side, the Liberra’s coach ancestry ensures large window areas for a spacious interior. It offers four berths, with the rear single beds (which can be converted into a king-sized double) which are separated from the rest of the space by the space-saving washroom. Up front, the lounge can be adapted into a second sleeping area. Features include a gas oven, compressor fridge, roof air-conditioning, underfloor heating and solid wood furniture.

Manufactured in small series, the Liberra can be personalised in terms of furnishings and colours, as well as through its modular design.

Of course, all this doesn’t come cheap, with prices starting at just over £500,000.
