Rear lounges have been revered by us Brits for many years and it seems that the Europeans are starting to wake up to the joys of sumptuous relaxing areas.
Well, the latest manufacturer to broaden the pool of rear lounges is Laika with its new Kosmo model, the L 105. This now joins the Ecovip 645 campervan for this type of floorplan, but they are very different vehicles.
The Kosmo is part of Laika’s starting line-up, but it has to be noted that this is a premium manufacturer, so it’s not a budget motorhome.
It’s also just 6m long (the Ecovip campervan actually measures 6.36m), but still manages to sleep and travel four if needed – this is probably going to be a couples’ motorhome, though.
Step on board and the lounge is at the rear, with a kitchen centrally located and the washroom just behind the cab.
The floor level is high, but this is because there’s double-floor storage underneath.It’s the lounge that’s the star feature, though, with a U-shaped sofa.
A large folding table means six or seven people could dine here and a combination of windows and rooflights create an airy space during the day with LEDs offering ambient and task lighting when the sun goes down. Beds lower electrically, with up to 2.05m of length for sleeping.
As with many single bed floorplans, a slide-out slatted base allows you to sleep lengthways or across the ’van. Plus, you could make a second double bed from the lounge seats. Two extra seatbelts with headrests are provided in the rear lounge for these additional occupants.
The Vario washroom is new for the coming season, also featuring in the Kosmo L 319 and H 1319 models.
A swing wall with a washbasin pivots around and over the swivel- bowl toilet to create a separate shower area. Finally, the two cab seats swivel to create a small seating area.
A small fold-down worktop can be used for laptops, your morning coffee or a quick snack.

If you like the style of the Kosmo L 105 but want something a little roomier with fixed beds then take a look at the two new UK-exclusive Kosmo models, 4.9 and 4.12.
Choose between the single bed floorplan or the island bed model, both offering a L-shaped seating group in the lounge, with a single seat opposite.
Both also have central washrooms split across the aisle with a door that swings across to create an en suite to the bedroom.
However, the biggest news, and what makes them special, is that these floorplans have been changed just for the UK, with the habitation door on the other side to standard Kosmo models.
Wood colours are a combination of stone grey and forest green and, while there is a standard soft furnishing scheme with dark grey fabric, there are plenty of options for the main seats, including leather and different patterns and colours for backrests and scatter cushions.

An all-new Kreos low-profile was launched just a couple of years ago and marked a departure from Laika’s more traditional interior schemes as well as improving functionality.
This was followed by an A-class version last year.
And it’s telling that the rest of the range now mirrors the interior of these Kreos models with matt surfaces (choose between Deep Ocean or Ice Grey), natural wood-effect accents and contrasting white panels.
However, this Kreos is still at the top of the tree with top-class levels of insulation and heating and a well-equipped kitchen.
Details like a moulded Corian washbasin and up-to-the-minute matt black fittings enhance a washroom that has plenty of light and storage.
A double floor means it’s one level from cab to rear bedroom, making the cab seats a proper part of this already large lounge.
There is a skylight above, which can be ordered as a sliding version. There is also a new control unit fitted as standard to Kreos models, allowing you to set routines, monitor levels and much more, via an app.
