Senior Trading Manager, Mark Sheppard, says,

At the start of this year, every city in France with a population of more than 150,000 introduced a low emission zone, or ZFE (zone à faibles émissions) to help reduce pollution,” explained Mark Sheppard, Senior Trading Manager at Safeguard. For peace of mind, it’s vital that holidaymakers travelling through France in their motorhome have bought the relevant anti-pollution vehicle sticker, or Crit’Air, before they set off to prevent them from picking up potential fines of more than £350 along the way.

Safeguard also says it is vital to remember that you can’t buy the Crit’Air in France. They must be ordered in advance and can take up to 10 days to arrive. The Crit’Air can be ordered from a number of sources such as the Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition for €3.70 or Tollwayr for £16.54.

There are six types of stickers which each relate to how polluting your vehicle is. The French government will tell the vehicle driver which sticker they should apply to their motorhome.

To accompany the Crit’Air, Safeguard says you also need to take the following with you to drive in France:

  • A UK sticker, prominently displayed, not a traditional GB one
  • Your passport
  • Your log book (V5C)
  • Your driving licence
  • Your MoT certificate
  • A copy of your insurance policy
  • Fluorescent jackets and warning triangles
