German motorhome manufacturer Hymer reveals new A-class layout
German manufacturer, Hymer, has revealed a new layout in its premium B-Class Masterline A-class range.
The new B-ML I 890, which joins its three siblings – the 780, 790 and 880 – in the B-ML line-up, is 8.99 metres long and is built on a twin-rear axle SLC chassis, which is made by Hymer, coupled to a six-speed manual 143bhp Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cab (the 1777bhp engine and 9-speed automatic gearbox are both options).
In the interior, the B-ML I 890 sees its habitation door moved back to open up the space between the seating area and kitchen. The side couch is now 30cm larger than in the 780 and 790 layouts, and the worksurface of the corner kitchen – which comes with a premium mineral worktop as standard – has also been widened by 15cm compared to the 790 layout with a queen-size bed. One mid-height and one floor-to-ceiling cupboard unit on the opposite side provide additional storage space for kitchen utensils.
Towards the washroom, two fixed sliding doors enable the sleeping area to be partitioned off. The washroom itself features a redesigned washbasin including mirror cabinet and integrated lighting occupying a separate area next to the shower with real glass doors. This creates more space in the toilet area, which is equipped with an open shelf, towel radiator and additional window. The adjustable and magnetic vanity mirror, which can be fixed in place wherever it is needed, is the perfect finishing touch to the bathroom of the B-ML I 890. For extra privacy, the bathroom can also be partitioned off in the direction of the living area.
The rear of the 890 layout features an island double bed that is two metres long and almost 1.60 metres wide. There is over 40cm of walking space along each side of the bed, making accessing the two wardrobes at the rear easier. UK prices and exact specifications have not yet been confirmed.
Hymer has also launched another Sprinter-based coachbuilt – the new 7.39m-long T-Class S 680, which features a popular twin single bed layout at the rear with a central en-suite washroom that can be partitioned off from the living area and an optional drop-down bed above the L-shaped front lounge.
As is now common with Mercedes-based Hymers, this new model comes packed with safety features, including Crosswind Assist, Active Brake Assist and Distronic IC Active Distance Assist. Thanks to the lowered chassis frame, the floor is level throughout the vehicle, which results in an overall headroom of 2.04 metres. The en-suite washroom features a separate shower and those twin single beds both measure 1.90m long by 83cm wide.
This model also features a hot air diesel heater and water boiler as standard, which not only has a positive impact on the weight and storage space as gas bottles are no longer required, but also ensures greater self-sufficiency (two compact 3-litre gas bottles for the hob are still included). The kitchen sees the addition of a floor-to-ceiling 152-litre compressor fridge/freezer as standard with an optional oven above (this is likely to be fitted as standard on UK models). Again UK prices and specifications have yet to be confirmed.
