'Stay the Night' scheme confirmed by Forest & Land Scotland

Forestry & Land Scotland extend stopover scheme
Following a successful winter trial, Forestry & Land Scotland (FLS) announced sites across Scotland will offer overnight stays all year round, at a number of car parks, for self-contained motorhomes and campervans.
Spots will be available on a first come, first served basis for one night only, at a charge of £7 per stay, or £10 with chemical waste disposal. Visitors are welcome between 6pm and 10am, with no return visit for 48 hours after. FLS says that the scheme will run all year long, but there are fewer car parks participating over winter compared to the rest of the year.
Alan Chalmers, FLS’ Visitor Planning Manager, commented,
“On the back of a successful winter trial last year, it is exciting to be able to now confirm FLS is incorporating this option into the Stay the Night scheme, making it a year-round offer.
“There are people who prefer to tour in the winter months when the main holiday season is over, and the landscape and scenery offer a very different experience and the trial showed us these visitors took up the opportunity to overnight responsibly in the participating car parks.”
Ranging from the Scottish Borders to the Highlands, there are more than 30 sites available on the scheme. Some sites of note include: Bridge of Orchy, Argyll, which has recently undergone major upgrades, Laggan Wolftrax, a popular location for mountain biking, and Duke’s Pass, situated in the scenic Trossachs.
It is requested for visitors using these sites that no fires or barbecues are used, and that all rubbish is taken away after your stay. FLS staff will also be on hand to ensure only self-contained motorhomes and campervans are parked up and that the rules are being followed. A self-contained motorhome or campervan has a fresh water tank, waste tank, sink, sealable refuse container, and, most importantly, a portable fixed toilet. The use of generators is not allowed.
