Discounts for motorhomers on charity walk
Take the Llangollen Round challenge and raise funds for cancer charityThe Llangollen Round is a high level walk around the Vale of Llangollen taking in heather moorland, limestone grassland, deciduous and coniferous forest, mountain tops and of course, the scene Llangollen Railway. The entire course is 33 mile circular route that can be tackled as a one day challenge, or as a more leisurely pursuit over a number of days. There’s a guide book with details of the course that costs £4 with all profits going to Cancer Research. And that brings us to the Llangollen Round Sponsored Walk, a triennial event, which sees a second outing after the initial event in 2012.
The 2nd Llangollen Round Challenge will be held over the weekend of 30-31 May. For this event, the route has been slightly modified so that it starts and ends at the Leisure Centre in Dinas Brân School in Llangollen. This means the total distance has increased slightly to 35 miles but the route will be well marked out, with five checkpoints, each offering refreshments. You can choose to tackle the entire course in one or two days. There will be a light meal, a medal and certificate at the end. The idea is to raise money for Cancer Research UK and all contestants will be supplied with sponsorship forms.
If you’re attending the event in a campervan or motorhome then there’s good news as local sites are pitching in to help. The two large campsites in Llangollen, Abbey Farm and Wern Isaf Farm, are offering concessions on pitches for tents and motorhomes for all walkers taking part in the Challenge. Abbey Farm is reducing prices by 15%, Wern Isaf is knocking £2 off all pitches. Also, Penddol campsite has approximately 10 touring places and is offering £5 per night off the cost. For more details, call the individual campsites: Abbey Farm on 01978 861297, Wern Isaf Farm on 01978 860632 and Penddol on 01978 861851.
Small motorhomes may stay free overnight in the parking field beside the canal, or park overnight in the grounds of Dinas Brân School (Friday and Saturday nights only), with use of the facilities there. If you would like to stay in the school grounds you should make a note on the entry form.
Abbey Farm is one mile from Dinas Brân School where the Challenge begins and ends, Wern Isaf is half a mile and Penddol is next to the parking field. Dinas Brân School and the parking field are about three minutes walk from the centre of town where there are shops, pubs and restaurants.
