The smallest of the range may appeal to many; its 5.4m length will make it suitable for visiting towns and exploring rural roads with ease, while that excellent Fiat or Citroën base vehicle eats up the miles through motorways with ease if needed.

This is 60cm shorter than the next model up and inside there’s bound to be some compromises to fit a fixed bed layout in this medium-wheelbase motorhome.

That’s primarily been achieved thanks to the washroom, which Dethleffs calls its ‘Centre Bathroom’. This uses tambour doors to stretch the washroom into the aisle for legroom while on the loo as well as a shower area.

The kitchen, too, is a great use of space, with an 84-litre fridge located at the end of the unit – the door opens 180 degrees so you can even access it from outside.

At the back, the thick mattress sits on a slatted frame. This can be pushed to one side to increase storage for carrying bulky items, although the space below is generous for everyday holiday items. There’s even a pull-out rack for gas cylinders here, to make carrying and swapping between two bottles a doddle.

The bed narrows to the foot, creating space for that washroom, but a divider panel offers a step and interior access to the under-bed storage.

If you wanted to create more berths, you could sleep a further two people in the optional pop-top roof or specify the lounge bed for an extra single, although remember that there are only belted travel seats for four – two in the cab and two on the rear dinette bench. That table has a pull-out extension to cater for four diners.

The pop-top roof has a panoramic function to allow the sides to be unzipped for balcony-style views of your surroundings. And you can opt for a panoramic rooflight over the cab to increase daytime light levels in this area.

Based on the Fiat Ducato, the Advantage comes with a generous specification, including flush-fitting windows, an additional window in the rear, an awning, leather steering wheel, 16in alloys and more.

Interior décor is restricted to the Hygge scheme on the Classic models; however, you can choose between Kos or Scandi as no-cost options if you plump for an Advantage. In terms of exterior colours, Icy White is standard for both equipment levels, with varying shades of grey (if you thought we were joking, they are Graphite Grey metallic, Artense Grey metallic, Expedition Grey or Thunder Grey) on the options list.
