Cornwall Council launches public consultation on off-street parking changes
Cornwall Council has opened a public consultation on proposed amendments to its Off Street Parking Order, aimed at improving traffic management, road safety, reducing congestion, and supporting sustainable transport across the county.
Residents, businesses and visitors are invited to share their views on the proposals, which would revoke and replace The Cornwall Council (Off Street Parking Places) Order 2024 (as amended).
The council says the changes are designed to ensure parking assets are managed effectively while balancing the needs of local communities with Cornwall’s environmental and economic objectives.
Key proposed changes include:
- Varying parking charges across all Cornwall Council chargeable car parks, with increases either in line with inflation or targeted amendments to support traffic management
- Removal of the 2-3 hour tariff in all long-stay car parks
- Conversion of Tolcarne Road, Newquay, and Trengrouse Way, Helston, into long-stay car parks
- An increase in the cost of ‘Reserved’ parking permits to align with current market value
- Conversion of Cattle Market, Liskeard, into a short-stay car park
- Removal of Broadsyard, Downderry, from the parking order
- Introduction of a motorhome prohibition on Commercial Road, Hayle
- Reduction of the JustPark wallet minimum spend to £35
- Renaming of Tintagel Visitor Centre car park to Bossiney Road, Tintagel
Introduction of motorhome charges at the following car parks:
- Link Road, Padstow
- Watergate Bay
- Trenwith, St Ives
- Wheal Leisure, Perranporth
- Main, Fowey
- Marazion Station
- Gyllyngvase Coach Park, Falmouth
- Seaton Bridge
- Cattle Market, Launceston
- Victoria Square, Bodmin
