Camping and Caravanning Club sees membership rise

The Camping and Caravanning Club says it now has the highest membership in its 116-year history.

The Club actually saw the record of its highest ever membership since it was founded in 1901 broken in April last year, but membership has continued to grow since then. The Club now reaches 300,000 UK households, or nearly 600,000 campers, caravanners and motorhomers.

The Club has also revealed the findings of its latest research, which show that 41% of campers, which include motorhomers, rely on holidays to spend quality time with extended family and friends more than they used to.

Almost 70% of them also said that its affordability makes camping a great way to spend quality time with people that matter most, while 64% confirmed that taking children or grandchildren on camping holidays can help improve their social skills and mental wellbeing.

However, 73% of respondents confessed to checking work emails once a day or more at weekends when they should be spending time with family and friends, and 33% admitted to spending more than two hours catching up or preparing for upcoming work tasks at weekends. That said, 49% said they find it easier to disconnect from work when they’re on a camping break than when at home.
