A twin lounge motorhome with flair

af38f3c3-0c8b-4a16-9057-2f84f775813f

Bürstner's Lyseo motorhome is one of the popular manufacturer's most exciting ranges, and while its new Lyseo lounge concept has got a lot of airtime, it's the I 744 that we're focusing on here

There's no guarantee that the concept which adds a lounge slide-out to an end washroom model will make it into production, but the Lyseo I 744 can be bought today and offers two great relaxing areas.

That multi-lounge design has two benefits: the front lounge area feels more inviting and that drop-down bed in the cab means the front seating is still usable with the bed deployed.

Lyseo I 744 front lounge
Lyseo I 744 rear lounge

That’s not this model’s only trick, however, as it also has a drop-down bed above the rear lounge. That means that, even with four occupants on board, there’s no bed making required. And because of that bed, this lounge is a more unusual L-shape, like you would have at home.

The sideboard is the perfect place for a large TV (supply your own or opt for one of Bürstner’s Connect Packages – choose between a 21.5in or a 32in Smart TV, either of which also come with WiFi Connect).

Between these two areas you get a washroom split across the aisle. The toilet door can be swung over to shut off the rear and there’s a sliding section to shut off the bed from this area. That's particularly important if you have occupants in the front bed who will be using the facilities during the night.

The toilet is set high-ish on a plinth; those of shorter stature will have to test this out, although it’s not a deal-breaker if you’re happy to keep a small folding step in this area to help with comfort. There is, however, plenty of elbow room around the throne, so you won’t feel too hemmed in.

The shower is opposite, and it’s a decent size with a shelf for shampoo, etc. There is a small step here, but it’s not as pronounced as some and shouldn’t pose too much of a problem when using the space.

The kitchen is also good, with a three-in-a-line hob that creates food prep space in front if it. The Lyseo maybe once was Bürstner’s entry-level range, but this is the Harmony Line version and it balances a plush, pared-back feel, managing to be both cosy and modern at the same time. That’s a fine line to tread, but Bürstner does do it rather successfully.

It’s not unique to the market Mobilvetta has a twin lounge A-class, for example, but it's under 7m, so may not be as spacious feeling as this one. Roller Team has a model around the same size but with a conventional U-shaped lounge and no drop-down bed at the rear. So, if you want an airy, spacious A-class to sleep and travel four with ease, or just want two lounges (one for relaxing and one for a mobile office, maybe), then this is a great option. The fact that it has two instantly available drop-down beds is the icing on this particular motorhome cake.

Price-wise, that £123k tag may seem high, but this does come with the 180bhp engine mated to an automatic gearbox as standard. It’s also the 4.4-tonne chassis which will offer a decent amount of payload, but you’ll have to check your licence for that all import C/C1 classification. If you’ve only got B on there, you are restricted to 3.5-tonne motorhomes.

However, it is worth noting that there are four standard fabric schemes to choose from – although these are all very neutral tones – or you can choose the full leather cost option. It’s worth noting that there are plenty of packs that will eat into your payload and add to that price, so choose wisely when ticking those boxes.
