While there’s a much larger range of Bürstner campervans over in Europe, here in the UK, we are only currently able to buy the compact pop-top Renault-based Playa and this Eliseo range based on Fiat’s ubiquitous Ducato van

There’s a good range of layouts, too, from a 5.41m long model with a fixed transverse bed to a 6.36m model with a rear lounge. However, if you want the space of the extra-long Fiat, but with the luxury of beds you don’t have to make up each night, then the C642 model will be the one you want.

And while many German brands believe in extensive options lists, Bürstner’s UK-bound models normally come pretty well specced as standard, and the extras list stays short, making it pretty easy to navigate. This model comes with the Active Pack as standard, sporting quilted upholstery with stitched ‘Active’ detail, separate graphics and 16in alloy wheels.

What’s great about this model is the sheer flexibility. It’s the perfect couples' campervan in standard form, with lovely comfortable fixed single bed mattresses at the rear for your night-time slumbers.

However, should you want more berths, there are a couple of options that are worth looking at. For an occasional extra berth, order the kit that converts the lounge to a bed.

If you wanted a bigger bed without impacting lounging, then order the version with a pop-top, offering a good-sized double up top – spring supports boost the excellent mattresses’ comfy credentials. This bed has been developed exclusively by the Hymer Group for its campervan brands and has a panoramic window function that allows you to unzip the canopy for rooftop terrace views of your surroundings.

Isofix is fitted on the rear travel seat as standard, to facilitate travelling with kids (for those that need car seats or booster seats, anyway).

There’s also that rear boot area to point out. Fold the beds out of the way to enhance storage for tall items, or leave down for day-to-day use. Finally, though the washroom may be compact, it has a clever swing-out wall that covers over the toilet and creates a practical, usable shower area.
