Bürstner announces two new concepts

2b8bc0ef-7a05-4d87-bcab-922a7ad4a53e

While there are mostly detail changes only for much of the Bürstner line-up this year, following major changes last season, two new concepts stand out in the 2024 range

About Bürstner

Bürstner is a member of the Erwin Hymer Group and is unusual in having factories on both sides of the French/German border. It is also a rarity in producing everything from pop-top campervans right up to tag-axle A-classes. It began making motorhomes in 1986 and introduced the first drop-down bed, low-profile model as long ago as 2008. It has always been seen as one of the industry’s leading innovators, something today witnessed by the new slide-out lounge concept.

For 2024, the range also includes the Eliseo Active high-top campervans, new Limited and best-selling Lyseo TD Harmony Line low-profiles, and Lyseo I and Elegance A-classes, in addition to the pop-top Playa campervan.

We have always primarily focused on the interior, which we design in the same way you’d design your home.

New concept models for 2024

The Kangoo Habiton prototype
The Showcar Lounge

There were big changes from this German manufacturer for the 2023 season, and while development of its existing line-up continues, the company launched two very different concept vehicles this year, one in a completely new market.

That market is the car camper one and Bürstner is exploring the idea of a multi-purpose vehicle for the modern family with the Habiton, based on the Renault Kangoo.

Like previous Bürstner concepts, the Habiton follows the maxim of ‘travel small, live large’ and features an inflatable roof tent that is fully integrated into the vehicle.

Bürstner says using a modular concept means it is easy to switch from everyday life to camping, and vice versa. These include, for example, a removable kitchen unit including induction hob and sink, an inflatable mattress for use inside the vehicle (in addition to the roof-top bed) and an electric coolbox.

The ‘lounge tent’ has blackout elements attached with snap fasteners that can be used as bags during the day, air vents with flyscreens, dimmable LED spots, hook-on baskets and an additional battery.

The second concept is the Lounge model, which has a slide-out in the lounge area. This creates more floorspace as well as allowing the bed to become a full-length sofa bed, still with access around. It uses similar inflatable technology to the Lyseo Gallery but applies this to the slide-out section, which has the added benefit of being insulated as well as easy to deploy.

In other news, the Renault-based Playa campervan sees a second model, the 530, offering an end washroom and kitchen, still with twin sliding doors, allowing it to be easily used as an everyday car.

We also expect to see small changes to Lyseo models, in particular the floorplan of the 744 model, while the Eliseo full-sized campervans will get a new pop-top roof option with panoramic sides, larger bed, aluminium bed base and an electronic locking mechanism.

First shown as a concept in 2021, the Lyseo Gallery is one of the most innovative and unusual motorhomes not just in the Bürstner range but across Europe. This is a low-profile motorhome like no other, because it has an overcab bedroom that inflates on site to give a generous sleeping space – accessed by a true staircase that’s even illuminated, as well as incorporating additional storage.

It only takes 90 seconds to raise the overcab with the aid of compressed air and a specially developed chamber system – this is a whole lot more sophisticated than a conventional pop-top! When elevated, the vehicle becomes 3.70m high, but Bürstner has thoroughly tested its Gallery roof – in temperatures from minus 30 to plus 80 degrees Celsius, as well as with snow 1.5m deep and in winds of up to 120km/h.

Roof aside, the Gallery adopts the high spec of other Harmony Line models with a contemporary exterior and diamond quilted upholstery inside. Of course, it has Bürstner’s Thermo-Floor, too, to ensure all-season comfort on board.

The 689 G is one of two models in the range, both of which are under 7m in length. Here, the layout features an L-shaped settee up front along with twin swivel cab seats. The central kitchen, backing onto the lounge, is also L- shaped, with a tall, 142-litre fridge opposite. Then, across the rear, is a full-width washroom with separate shower and giant wardrobe, under which is the garage.

Bürstner’s mid-range A-class, the Lyseo I, was introduced in 2023 and is offered with a choice of five floorplans, all based on the popular Fiat Ducato chassis.

Built on a 4.4-tonne heavy chassis (offering good levels of payload), it has a spacious layout within a 7.36m overall length. Up front, the lounge incorporates an L-shaped settee, a single side seat and swivel captain’s chairs in the cab, plus a wall-mounted table. This will be your dining area, as well as offering two rear travel seats.

Where the I 744 surprises, though, is at the back, where a comfortable L-shaped sofa and sideboard create a luxurious space in which to relax. Then, come night-time, a drop-down bed lowers to provide almost instant sleeping comfort for two more occupants.

The Eliseo campervan range includes the usual fixed bed floorplans, but the C 644 has an innovative layout that you won’t find elsewhere. It has a rear lounge, but not as we know it!

Based on the extra-long Fiat panel van, this Eliseo model has a U-shaped seating area at the back, which incorporates two travel seats and has a fold-down bed above.

The clever part is that it also includes a garage area just inside the rear doors – perfect for your bikes. Its Ducato base vehicle comes with 16in alloy wheels, cab air-conditioning, ESP, Traction+ and a leather steering wheel as standard, and cab blinds are included, too.

In the kitchen, you’ll find a 138-litre compressor fridge and an oven, while the Vario Bathroom makes good use of space for showering – the basin is attached to a wall which swings over the toilet to create a separate shower. Dimmable lighting sets the mood inside and a diesel-fired Truma Combi heating system ensures a cosy environment all year round.
