British motorhomers heading for France

3bc04dd2-1a9a-4688-a3ac-1b72bf8cae9f

France remains the most popular overseas destination with British campers and caravanners, with more reasons than ever to head there this summer, says The Camping and Caravanning Club.

In 2015, 50% of campsite bookings made through the Club’s European Travel Service were for pitches on campsites in France, making it the Club’s most popular European destination. With new campsites at Lac de Sanguinet in southwest France and Plage-Sud in Biscarosse Plage included among the Club’s 90 hand-picked partner campsites in France for 2016, strong advance bookings indicate France’s popularity is set to grow further.

Bookings for the 198-pitch La Bien Assise campsite, around eight miles from the ferry port and handy for Boulogne and the Opal Coast, make it one of the most popular sites with Club members for the second consecutive year.

But topping the table, Le Letty campsite in the Finisterre department of western Brittany was the Club’s most popular holiday site in 2015 and offers direct beach access and a large indoor and outdoor pool complex. Many of the Club’s partner campsites are offering great discounts and promotions on pitches this summer too - from seven nights camping on selected dates throughout the summer on campsites across Europe to exclusive offers on individual sites. Of course, there are plenty of reasons why more than 80m travellers visit France each year, making it the world’s most popular tourist destination.

With more than 40 World Heritage Sites including fine cathedrals and stunning châteaux, prehistoric monuments, three very different coastlines, several major mountain ranges, France offers the best of Europe in one country.

France’s motorways remain the envy of the world, while its food and drink are legendary. With lower fuel costs than recent years, you can see why it’s such a hit with campers taking their tent, caravan or motorhome over to the continent in search of the sun.

And whether campers are planning to visit to enjoy sporting drama, in a summer when France will be the focus of sport fans all over the world, or looking for sites off the beaten track to escape spectator hotspots, the Club can help with bookings for the right site via its European Travel Service. Richard Grimsdale, the Club’s Travel Services Director, said, “France holds a unique appeal and charm with our customers, and many choose to return year after year to take in the unique food and culture of the country. Our Travel Service makes it easy for our customers to book all components of their camping trip safely, quickly, easily and securely.”

The Camping and Caravanning Club’s 2016 European Camping Holidays brochure is now available and features more than 140 hand-picked sites in 12 European destinations.

Published by the Club’s European Travel Service, it lists Club-inspected sites throughout Europe, with guidance on the best sites for families or couples of all ages, sites to visit off peak, plus great deals on ferry and Eurotunnel crossings, details of travel insurance, maps, guides and more.
