CAMPSITES in and around Kent are bracing themselves for more than a million spectators as the Tour de France comes to Britain. The special UK stage takes place on Sunday, July 8, with places such as Folkestone Race Course and The Hop Farm Country Park laying on special arrangements to allow cycle-mad campers to watch the race.
Canterbury council, where the stage finishes, has pleaded for landowners to come forward if they had space for campers, such has been the demand for accommodation.
It is estimated that 1.5million people are expected to line the 126-mile route come race day.
For Kent Tourism the timing of the Tour is ideal and they are hoping to welcome many new visitors to the county. For further information on the visit of Tour de France click on: www.kent.gov.uk or www.kenttourism.co.uk
