New beachside caravan park opens on NC500 route
A new 30-pitch caravan park has officially opened near the village of Melvich, providing a welcome stop for visitors touring the popular North Coast 500 (NC500) route in the Scottish Highlands.
Location
Melvich Bay Caravan Park sits just above the beach, offering panoramic views across the North Atlantic Ocean and towards Orkney. The 25-acre campsite features hardstanding pitches for campervans and motorhomes, along with electricity, water, waste water disposal, family bathrooms, and strong mobile coverage.
The park is located between Thurso and Bettyhill, with shops and a café within walking distance. Pitches measure 12 square metres and overnight stays can be booked for £35 via the campsite’s website.
"Providing high-quality facilities in a stunning setting”
Director, Angus Forbes, a local farmer and contractor, said the campsite aims to improve facilities along the busy NC500 and support the local economy. “We recognised that logistical and hospitality support had a bit of catching up to do,” he said. “This project is about providing high-quality facilities in a stunning setting.”
Melvich lies on the A836, with the A897 connecting the area to Helmsdale via the Strath of Kildonan.
