Looking for a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System?

ca3386dc-53dc-4c1b-be2a-5333b12b0355

A tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) from a tyre maker is a logical product for them to make.

French tyre maker, Michelin, has a TPMS (made under licence by Fit2Go TPMS Ltd in the UK), which will help caravanners with its simplicity.

How to fit the Michelin TPMS

The Michelin TPMS comes with four sensors for your car tyres which wirelessly connect with a monitor you attach to your windscreen.

The sensors are easy to fit on the valves on your car tyres (3 minutes is the time to beat).

Firstly, inflate your tyres to the correct pressure, screw on the lock nuts, add the sensors (which have an image to show you on which tyre to put it on), tighten the nuts using the special spanner, then switch on the control panel.

What you see on the screen

Michelin TPMS display panel

The control panel automatically pairs with the sensors and displays their locations and pressures on the screen. The screen shows the pressures in bar or psi and the tyre temperatures in Fahrenheit or Celcius.

Solar power

You stick to the panel onto a clean patch of your windscreen, which doesn't obscure your view. There's a battery in the control panel which uses a small, outward-facing solar panel to charge it.

There is a power socket on the side in case you need to charge the panel if you've had it tucked away out of the sun for a while.

However, the battery in the panel should charge up soon when you put it in the daylight.

The sensors contain a battery which should last between three and five years.

What about your caravan?

Michelin trailer sensors

For your caravan, you'll need the extra trailer sensors kit. The kit comes with four sensors so you can use it with a twin-axle caravan (if you have one). Each sensor has an image to show you on which tyre to fit it.

The Michelin TPMS has an audible alarm to warn you when the pressure gets too low, and also a temperature warning.

It's a neat TPMS, easy to fit and use. And, because it uses a solar panel to charge there is no irritating wire to drape across your dashboard.

The Michelin TPMS will help you keep safe when driving with or without your caravan.
