Laura Ashley x Campod: Campod announce partnership with Laura Ashley for a retro-inspired caravan
A Gloucester-based manufacturer, Campod, has partnered with the iconic British brand Laura Ashley to create a caravan that blends vintage charm with modern comfort.
Based in Lydney, Gloucester, this Manufacturer, known for crafting caravans and catering trailers, has introduced the Laura Ashley Campod, a design that merges quintessential British style with practicality.
About Campod
Founded in 2019, Campod quickly gained recognition for its unique approach to caravans but faced challenges during the pandemic. However, a growing demand for bespoke, UK-made caravans has brought them back in full swing.
A Unique Collaboration Rooted in British Heritage
The collaboration with Laura Ashley marks a significant milestone, bringing a fresh aesthetic inspired by traditional British countryside design, with floral patterns and a retro feel, directly to the caravan industry.
The Campod’s exterior, adorned with intricate floral motifs, and its warm, inviting interior pay homage to Laura Ashley’s legacy. The caravan’s design reflects Laura Ashley’s journey, from her roots in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, to her establishment as a household name in British design. The caravan’s aesthetic draws on the designer’s love for rural charm, blending it seamlessly with Campod’s practical approach.
Practical Features for Modern Travellers
Designed for both style and functionality, the Laura Ashley Campod includes features like solid oak kitchen worktops, a Truma 240V electric water heater, and a twin gas burner hob. The seating area easily transforms into a double bed, offering a compact but comfortable setup ideal for couples or small families. Additionally, with multiple storage compartments and thoughtful amenities, the Campod ensures caravanners can enjoy their journey without sacrificing convenience.
Starting at £29,950, the Laura Ashley Campod allows customisation with optional extras like solar panels, BBQ sockets, and an external gas socket, which can bring the price above £35,000.
Enhancing Local Craftsmanship and Economy
The project has not only highlighted Campod’s design and engineering skills but has also bolstered partnerships in Gloucestershire, drawing on nearby suppliers and skilled artisans. The collaboration contributes to the West Country’s rich heritage in caravan craftsmanship, adding to a legacy that includes names like Bailey and Barefoot.
Campod’s founders Tom & James shared their vision behind the collaboration, stating:
"Driven by the goal to create a compact, lightweight caravan with real character, we looked to our Caterpod trailers for inspiration. With 12 years of experience crafting these practical and stylish trailers, our customers often suggested they'd make a fantastic caravan. After four rounds of redesigns, the Campod was born! It has the same footprint as a Caterpod but offers full standing height for an ideal, spacious experience.”
They continued:
“The Campod project has brought significant benefits to our local area, strengthening partnerships with nearby suppliers and skilled craftspeople and fostering a sense of pride in creating something unique. Given the West Country’s legacy of caravan innovation–from Bailey’s to Barefoot–it's the perfect birthplace for a fresh, standout design.”
On working with Laura Ashley, they said:
“Working with Laura Ashley has been a truly inspiring experience. Their team’s commitment to quality and timeless design has been a perfect fit for the Campod vision. From the very beginning, their approach was collaborative, with a shared passion for creating something special. Their attention to detail and focus on craftsmanship made the process smooth and exciting. The synergy between our brands has been invaluable, resulting in a product that blends the best of both worlds–modern innovation and classic elegance.”
A New Chapter in Caravan Design
This partnership between Campod and Laura Ashley marks a unique offering in the caravan market, appealing to those who want an alternative to the standard white caravan aesthetic.
Speaking on the redesigned framework and chassis, they added:
“The Campod’s chassis has undergone a complete overhaul from the Caterpod base. It’s been entirely reinvented to provide the strength needed to support a full fiberglass shell while maintaining a lightweight design to keep the total caravan weight around 800 kg. The chassis is also fully galvanized, ensuring durability and longevity, making the Campod not only sturdy but built to withstand the test of time on the road."
The Laura Ashley Campod is now available for order.
