Explore these new nature reserves with your caravan
Two new National Nature Reserves (NNRs) have been unveiled, creating opportunities for caravanners and nature lovers to experience some of England's most beautiful landscapes.
Bradford Pennine Gateway
In West Yorkshire, the Bradford Pennine Gateway National Nature Reserve has been launched – the region's first NNR and part of the King's series of National Nature Reserves, spanning 1,272 hectares, it links eight key nature sites across Bradford and the South Pennines, including Penistone Country Park, in Haworth, closely connected with the Brontë Sisters.
The reserve protects vital habitats, supporting wildlife including adders, curlews and golden plovers.
With Bradford’s status as the UK City of Culture for 2025, the new reserve also aims to increase countryside access and offer educational opportunities, helping young people connect with local nature.
North Kent Woods and Downs
In Kent, the North Kent Woods and Downs National Nature Reserve has been created, covering 800 hectares of chalk grassland, wildflower meadows and ancient woodland.
This new NNR is also home to hundreds of ancient trees and rare species, like skylarks, orchids and hazel dormice. It also includes the Silverhand Estate, the UK's largest organic and carbon-negative vineyard, demonstrating how conservation and sustainable tourism can work together.
Both reserves are key milestones and make up part of a wider plan to create, or extend, 25 NNRs by 2027.
