Check your policy before towing, says insurance provider

Caravan insurance provider, Ripe Insurance, is urging UK caravan owners to check their policy ahead of upcoming holidays

According to Ripe Insurance’s internal data, in the event of an accident, the average cost of damage sustained while towing is £4,027.

Many caravan owners assume they are fully covered by their car insurance while towing, but, Ripe Insurance warns, most comprehensive policies only cover instances of third party liability, which protects against damage to a vehicle or injury to another person, but does not cover damage to the caravan itself.

John Woosey, founder of Ripe Insurance, says,

Ripe Insurance has also shared the following tips to ensure safe towing:

1. Choose a type-approved towbar
2. Ensure your mirrors meet legal requirements 
3. Test your brakes before travel
4. Drive with extra caution
