Camping and Caravanning Club marks 125 years with design competition
The Camping and Caravanning Club has launched a competition inviting members to design a new pennon to mark its 125th anniversary.
The historic pennon
The pennon, a traditional triangular flag which is displayed at meets and rallies, has been part of the Club’s identity for more than a century. The first was created in 1908 by member, Miss Aldridge, and famously carried by Captain Robert Falcon Scott, the Club’s first president, on his 1910 expedition to the South Pole.
Since then, pennons have become a familiar sight at events and Club sites across the UK, often displayed together on “pennon trees”. Each site also has its own unique design, with the Nottingham Club site featuring Robin Hood among its local symbols.
Club Director General, Sabina Voysey, said the anniversary design will celebrate both heritage and community:
“For more than a century, Club pennons have been proudly flown by our members – from Club sites all the way to the South Pole. Our pennons are full of nostalgia, and this competition is a way to honour that heritage.”
Entries will be judged on creativity, originality and how well they represent the Club’s identity. The winning design will be produced as the official 125th anniversary pennon, joining more than 4,500 others in the Club’s archive. The winner will also receive a framed copy of their design and an interview in Camping & Caravanning, the Club’s magazine.
The competition opens on 1 November and closes on 16 January, 2026. Members can submit designs digitally or via the printed template included in the winter edition of the magazine.
