New look for Bailey Phoenix 640 & 440 models
First look
Bailey Phoenix Black Edition: 2026 updates
Phoenix models get a new look for 2026. The shape of the front is more curved, and with a single-piece bumper. The rear, too, now has simpler lines and the light clusters are more smoothly integrated into the shape. These are subtle changes – but noticeable, as is the graphics scheme involving a flowing design in pale sepia shades mingling with dark brown.
Five layouts go forward into 2026; Out & About Live and Caravan magazine were invited to the Bailey factory to view two of the layouts, the 640 and 440.
A more modern design: introducing the new Bailey Black Edition ranges
Now carrying the Black Edition title, the updated line-ups are marked by a distinctive new look.
Expect black alloy wheels, matte black grab handles and darker trim finishes inside and out, all part of a wider visual refresh aimed at giving both ranges a more modern and contemporary feel.
The Phoenix Black Edition models also gain a new two-tone GRP body in Polar White and Dove Grey, now matched by similarly sleek interior updates.
Five layouts remain in the Phoenix line-up, ranging from the compact 420 to the four-berth 640 with a rear island bed. The larger 762 model has been dropped.
Pegasus retains five models as well, including the twin-axle Messina and the six-berth Amalfi. The five-berth Ancona does not return for 2026.
A notable addition for the year ahead is a new twist on the mid-washroom layout. Available in the Phoenix 640 and Pegasus Portofino, the revised layout features an angled, hinged door designed to improve usability of the washroom while also freeing up floor space in the adjoining bedroom – a clever solution for maximising comfort without increasing length.
Curtains have gone for 2026; Bailey started the movement away from curtains in previous models by introducing curtainless front windows. Now all the curtains have gone, the side windows now flanked by upholstered panels.
Among new features for 2026 is in the door area. The door’s interior is black and cream, and there is a pleated flyscreen which – unsurprisingly – is black mesh fabric. The marble-effect kitchen surface and splashback is new, as is the drop-down workshop extension; a very important feature.
The new Phoenix upholstery is fawn with paler fawn piped edging. Cushions are delightfully tactile, being composed of deeply ridged material.
Both ranges benefit from upgraded interior furnishings, with Bailey offering pet and child-friendly upholstery as standard in the Pegasus range and optional in Phoenix. Other practical improvements include upgraded heating systems, worktop extensions in Phoenix kitchens and larger 130W solar panels in Pegasus models.
The full technical specifications suggest these Black Edition updates offer a meaningful evolution of two popular ranges – blending enhanced comfort with styling that feels more in tune with modern tastes.
640
Our first-look 640 model showcases an ingenious invention. The shower and toilet are centrally located opposite one another, with the bedroom behind them. A sliding door divides the washing area from the kitchen – and the rear door is the new invention. To create more space in the bedroom, without compromising space in the washroom, Bailey has designed a door that is hinged two-thirds along its width. The top corner of the door runs in a track that takes a line diagonally across the coridor between the shower and the toilet/washbasin compartment. Simple – and clever!
In the washroom, the rectangular washbasin is set at an angle to the cabinet beneath it. Above, a large, oval mirror sits several centimetres forward of the wall, creating space for delightfully bright backlighting; very upmarket, in line with the general feel of the new Phoenix.
Carpets are darker brown than in previous models, increasing practicality.
440
The shorter 440 is one of only a few caravans now on the market to have what is termed a French bed; it’s aligned longitudinally, with a cut-off section to increase corridor width. The shower room is behind it.
While Phoenix is Bailey’s entry-level traditional tourer range (with the unique-shape, rounded-back Discovery models smaller and lighter in weight behind it), the Black Edition guise takes Phoenix upmarket in terms of looks.
The 440’s kitchen has an extending flap to augment surface space. Storage is provided by a double-doored cabinet with a deep drawer of the same width above it. The oven and grill are a combined unit which means there is a large cabinet below it. Opposite, above the fridge, is more surface. So, although the 440 is the smallest four-berth in the range, there is, in total, plenty of kitchen space.
The bedroom makes clever use of space with storage for the table in a recess on the offside wall. There’s a shelf above the table, and also one above that. This one culminates in a triangular three-shelf arrangement on the forward end. The wardrobe sits alongside it, set at a angle, with three large shelves below the hanging space.
Phoenixs still have Sonos portable speakers, but no longer have charging docks for them. They are now simply charged by plug-in points. They still have wireless phone charging pads with built-in USB ports.
