Nature’s coming alive again at Windy Harbour Holiday Park near Blackpool, with thousands of bees finally out and about just in time for World Bee Day.

Last year, the park – part of Partington’s Holiday Parks – welcomed two busy bee colonies onto its huge grounds for the first time ever. It’s all part of the Lancashire holiday company’s bigger push to support wildlife, boost biodiversity, and make the park a greener, more nature-friendly place for everyone to enjoy.

There are hundreds of campsites and touring parks to discover on Campsite Finder, so no matter where you want to explore – from Lake District fells to the Kentish coast – you'll find somewhere to stay on your next adventure.

After spending the colder months hidden away in their custom-built hives, the bees are finally waking up and getting about again.

The Buckfast and Durham Brown colonies are looked after by Partington’s in-house beekeeper, Dan Jefferson, who picked up beekeeping from his dad – a hugely experienced master beekeeper from the North East who’s been working with bees for more than 50 years.

World Bee Day (20 May), which was introduced by the United Nations back in 2017, is all about shining a spotlight on just how important bees are to the planet.

From helping crops grow to keeping ecosystems healthy, pollinators do a massive job – and the day encourages people everywhere to protect bee habitats, support local beekeepers and think more sustainably when it comes to farming and the environment.

Now the Windy Harbour bees are back out exploring the nearby countryside after their winter break, the park’s gardening team are getting stuck in, too.

In fact, two of the gardeners have recently completed a beekeeping course so they can learn more about looking after the growing colonies and helping the bees thrive.

Partington’s Chief Executive Officer, Rob Kearsley, said

Our bees have become a real talking point at Windy Harbour amongst our team and it’s wonderful to see them re-emerge in time for World Bee Day. Supporting the natural environment and maintaining sustainability throughout our parks is incredibly important to us, so this is a project we’re very proud of.
