Over three quarters of dog owners take their pets on holiday, a survey by the Caravan and Motorhome Club reveals
For many pet owners, a dog is like another member of the family. And this has been reflected in the results of a recent survey by the Caravan and Motorhome Club which revealed that 86% of dog owners take their four-legged friends on holiday, too.
Leaders of the pack are Labradors with 22% of surveyed people stating they are the breed of dog they have. Following closely behind were golden retrievers, Jack Russells, cocker spaniels, and mixed-breed rescue dogs.

The survey also revealed that dogs aren't the only pets some people take on their touring and camping holidays. Among the most unusual pets taken on trips were bearded dragons, snakes, rabbits and fish!
Caravans came out on top as the preferred choice of vehicle when holidaying with dogs, follwed by campervans and motorhomes.
Survey participants were also asked about their favourite holiday pursuits with their dogs, and, to no surprise, beach trips and water activities were the most popular, with forest walks and exploring trails also being mentioned.
The Caravan and Motorhome Club has over 200 main campsites that are dog-friendly. The Club created its 'Paws of Approval' scheme to give a 'paw rating' (voted for by Club members) to show the best dog-friendly campsites within its network. These sites go the extra mile for doggy guests, having dedicated dog walks, dog-wash areas and dog-friendly pitches, for example.
Another group of campsites that has a range of dog-friendly options is the high-quality Premier Parks group. With over 90 campsites across the UK, all welcoming dogs, there's a campsite to suit every four-legged companion and their owner.
Harvey Alexander, Director of Marketing and Membership Services at the Caravan and Motorhome Club, said,
"Our members' love for their pets is truly heartwarming. This is why we introduced our Paws of Approval rating system several years ago, which has been a fantastic initiative to ensure our campsites are as welcoming as possible for dogs and their owners. However, it isn’t just dogs that benefit from a holiday; reptiles, rabbits, cats and other animals get to enjoy the ride as well. We are thrilled to see so many people making the most of their holidays with their beloved pets.”
