Mill House, Bridgetown, Dulverton, Somerset, South West. TA22 9JN
Opening Times:
18 March - 17 October
Prices:
From £19.50 (2 adults, pitch, electric)
Each of the 50 pitches is either situated next to the fast-flowing River Exe on one side of the campsite or the gentle millstream on the other. Tents can be erected on any of the pitches with or without electric hook-up points. Some of the campsite’s extensive facilities include a laundry room, a free microwave and freezer, vegetable preparation and dishwashing areas, motorhome service point, an area for dog walking and a choice of grass or hardstanding pitches. It's also worth noting that the campsite offers free Wi-Fi and complimentary drinks upon arrival.
A local bus service will take you to Dunster Castle, Arlington Court and Knightshayes for those who like to browse around magnificent buildings. The moors are ideal for pony trekking and walking - explore secret combes or watch red deer run free. Several walks start from the campsite or you can take a guided safari trip or explore the moors by bus. For the more active there is an opportunity to try surfing or swimming in the nearby coastal towns of Minehead, Croyde and Woolacombe. Tarr Steps, with its famous 400-year-old clapper bridge, the Lorna Doone Valley and Wimbleball Lake are also within easy reach.
Fishing is free from a 600 yard stretch of the River Exe, or you can sit for hours on the edge of the weir in the one-acre recreation area and watch the salmon and trout leap in late summer and autumn. Look out for the kingfishers and otters that can also be seen in the area. The Badgers Holt Inn, opposite the campsite, serves good bar food daily.
The 17th Century Mill House has been restored, and most weekends, Chris and Paul Matthews invite campers inside for a demonstration of the mill in action. They take a real pride in their home, the caravan park and its setting, and if their welcome to us is anything to go by, you are assured of a similar one on your arrival. A magical holiday in a truly magical setting and there really is something for everyone in this quiet corner of Exmoor.
