Many cows are housed in open barns, together with sheep and pigs; these and many other animals including llamas, donkeys and goats make this campsite a veritable paradise for young children who can pet them.

The campsite is surrounded by trees, with three level fields in this rural environment, set well back from the road offering peace and quiet at all times.

The two modern toilet blocks are among the best we have seen, and the well-equipped licensed shop offers camping equipment of all kinds as well as a large range of fresh food, and battery charging for mobile phones.

The family-friendly campsite is run strictly, but will still allow groups in the tent area. There is a large well-stocked lake with carp, tench, bream and rudd which is free to campers. The bus stops at the gates, enabling you to visit Bournemouth, Weymouth and Swanage.

Walks abound from the campsite, and National Trust Corfe Castle and Visitors Centre is a short walk away, where you can discover 1000 years of the castle’s history as a royal palace and fortress. With fallen walls and secret places there are tales of treachery and treason around every corner. At every turn you will see the wildlife that has set up home in these fascinating castle ruins.

If you have left your bikes behind you can hire them from Purbeck Cycle Hire, and explore the many forest tracks, quiet lanes and bridleways of Wareham Forest, the Nature Reserve at Arne, or visit Studland Beach, with its Blue Cross beach and safe swimming. The dunes here make it the perfect place for the children to play and explore the sands.

The whole family will enjoy Weymouth Sea Life Park, a short distance away, which has more than 1000 creatures including seals, otters, crocodiles, sharks, and penguins. There are children’s rides, rockpools, ocean tunnel, Splash Lagoon - you could spend the whole day here without seeing it all. If the weather is wet the family will enjoy a visit to The Keep, with its collection of uniforms through the ages, Yeomanry and weapon displays, and Command Bunker with video shows of WW1 and WW11, and Hitler's Bunker.
