We camped here at a peak time bank holiday and, although busy, the campsite coped well. Within walking distance are cliff-top views with sandy beaches below and this area is a haven for the walker.
Up the road is the moving Battle of Britain Memorial with the statue of a young seated pilot looking out to sea, along with full-size replicas of the iconic Allied fighters the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Drive on and you drop down the hill to Folkestone with its harbour and seafood stalls. The harbour side boasts a couple of pubs and a short walk towards the sea brings you to a bathing beach.
Further along the coast is the picturesque Sandgate with its clapboard houses – take a look at the amazing Saga buildings on the hill overlooking the sea. Dover has its castle, white cliff walks, art and Roman galleries while Folkestone has its port area, hillside town shopping and grand cliff top buildings. As well as being a departure point for the continent, this area is well worth exploring over a longer stay.
