Damage Barton is a 16-acre campsite with 110 pitches. Like any other? Certainly not because the campsite has various attributes that make it unique. Part of a 600-acre beef and sheep farm, the campsite has been with the Lethbridge family since 1962. Situated on a headland on the beautiful North coast of Devon, the campsite has outstanding sea views - on a clear day, you can see the coast of South Wales, some 24 miles north, across the Bristol Channel.
The campsite has much more than views to offer. As orderly as it is expansive it has all the expected facilities, maintained to a markedly high standard and there is an on-site shop, open daily throughout the season.
This shop offers a vast range of food items fresh daily and also stocks beer and wine. A summer clothing range is a new addition, as are sunglasses and footwear, while an assortment of gifts is also available.
Part of the site is a Caravan Club site which is open to member only. This area is situated towards the top of the campsite with pitches having views across the rest of the site and towards the sea. The independent part of Damage Barton is the lower part of the campsite.
Being part of a working farm offers added attractions giving campers the chance to see Easter lambing, spring calving and, of course, the remarkable panoramic seaviews with extensive access direct from the site across farmland to the network of footpaths including the SW Coastal Path.
Conservation is also high on the campsite’s agenda. Having run a successful conservation stewardship for 15 years, Damage Barton has contributed to projects including the maintenance and protection of dry-stone walls, hedgerows, Devon banks, and the farm’s own millpond and wildflower meadow. Walkers can enjoy the results of this attention, using the nearby network of footpaths.
Exploring on foot, campers can access Lee Bay, Bull Point and Morte Point; moving further round the coast takes you to Woolacombe’s three-mile wide Blue Flag beach. Shell seeking, rock pooling and shipwreck spotting can be pursued at Barricane, Lee and Rockham respectively.
Damage Barton is easily reached by road and in the vicinity is a huge range of attractions, from Exmoor Zoo to Watermouth Castle. The campsite’s reception building has a stock of brochures and further details on all the local attractions. Damage Barton enjoys a high level of repeat visits… and it’s easy to see why!
