Westfalia launches compact fixed bed camper for 2026

German manufacturer, Westfalia, has unveiled a new compact campervan for 2026 with a fixed rear bed.

The Kipling, built on the latest Ford Transit Custom, has also been given a spacious rear storage area in response to growing customer demand.

It is one of several new or updated models revealed at Westfalia’s 2026 launch event in the Europa-Park theme park in western Germany.

Iain has been an avid camper since his very first night under canvas in his parents’ back garden, more years ago than he cares to remember. As a fully fledged gear geek he takes every opportunity to try out the latest camping gadgets when he’s out and about!

The new Westfalia Kipling campervan

The new Kipling, named after Jungle Book author, Rudyard Kipling, is built on the Ford Transit Custom and is available in 136hp and 170hp versions with the option of an automatic gearbox.

It also features double sliding doors, allowing access to the back from either side of the campervan.

The Transit Custom benefits from numerous driver assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, lane assist and more.

Pricing for the new Kipling starts at £60,900 and it will be available from UK Westfalia dealers from January.

Inside the new Westfalia Kipling

Inside, the key feature is the permanent transverse double bed, which measures 190cm by 130cm. Side extension panels fitted to the sides of the campervan give the vehicle extra width and allow the bed to be longer.

The slatted base can slide back or can be removed completely to provide more storage space for transporting bikes, boards and other sporting equipment.

In the pop-top roof, there is a second double bed measuring 192cm by 128cm and on hot days the canvas can be zipped open to reveal panoramic mesh windows.

Back ‘downstairs’, the side kitchen unit has two gas burners, a 51-litre compressor fridge and a sink and there’s an optional fixed cassette toilet in the back that slides out for use.

In the lounge, the two travel seats are used for dining around the table along with the swivel cab seats.

What else is in the Westfalia campervan range for 2026?

Jules Verne

Other models in the 2026 Westfalia range include the Mercedes Vito-based Jules Verne.

The Jules Verne has new base vehicle options, including an alarm, a winter pack with heated seats, wireless smartphone charging, a digital rear view mirror and more. Prices start at £64,590.

Kelsey

The innovative Kelsey, which is also built on the Transit Custom chassis and has an electric bench seat that can be converted to a bed at the touch of a button, will also see some updates in 2026.

New base vehicle features include an interior tailgate release and a new metallic Lunar Grey colour scheme. There will also be an optional lithium battery, integration of the ladder into the Kelsey Pack and modification of the drawer opening system. Prices for the Kelsey start at £60,900.

Club Joker Urban

The Club Joker Urban is a compact camper based on the Ford Transit Custom that can be used as an everyday drive and in 2026 will be available as a hybrid version for the first time. It has sliding doors on both sides and the coolbox can be used inside or outside the vehicle.

Other 2026 Westfalia models

Also updated for 2026 is the MAN-based Sven Hedin which will now be available with the option of an XXL pop-top roof. The Columbus will see some slight updates, with the availability of a pop-top for some models and an air-con unit.

For 2026, the James Cook, with its large storage area and transverse bed, will also have optional heated rear seats and a Dometic rooftop air-con unit.

Also new is Westfalia Connect, an optional system that will allow you to control on-board functions, such as heating, remotely.
