Campervanners warned about antisocial behaviour

Police warning to antisocial campervanners
The stunning Highlands of Scotland is one of the UK’s most popular campervan destinations.
But the antisocial behaviour of a minority of visitors in recent years has left locals angry.
Complaints about campervanners wild camping overnight in unsuitable places and illegally dumping waste have been on the increase.
Now the concerns have resulted in Police Scotland taking to social media to urge visitors to camp responsibly when they travel to the north of Scotland.
Police Scotland's message to campervanners
In a message on Facebook, the police force told campervanners:
• Never park in passing places on single track roads
• Only pitch up in suitable designated car parks or caravan sites
• Pull over to allow other road users to overtake as frustration causes accidents
• Only dispose of your rubbish at recycling points, and only empty waste water tanks at designated sites. Pumping out anywhere else is “dangerous and a serious offence”
"Don't park up in these spots"
Police Scotland says “laybys, short-stay car parks and the sides of the roads are not suitable places” to pitch up overnight and under the Scottish Outdoor Access Code you cannot wild camp from vehicles.
Officers also warned campers not to not drive off-road or on private roads/tracks.
Responsible camping message
It’s no secret that many people enjoy campervanning and caravanning throughout the Highlands and Islands; however, this needs to be done responsibly to ensure that all locals and visitors alike can continue to enjoy our roads and the scenery on offer.
