Low-cost hybrid campervan goes on sale
A hybrid campervan costing under £20,000 has been launched by UK-based conversion company, CampervanCo.
The hybrid Toyota Eco Escape is based on a Japanese import Toyota Hybrid Estima MPV and can sleep up to four people.
It is ULEZ complaint and is aimed at people looking for a vehicle that works as an everyday car as well as a campervan.
Under the bonnet is Toyota’s low-emission Hybrid Synergy Drive system which, according to CampervanCo, will allow you to live off-grid for days on end, especially in the summer.
CampervanCo CEO, Gary Hayes, describes the Escape as “one vehicle designed for everyday life.”
Living and sleeping in the Eco Escape
In the living area, the main feature of the interior is a full-width adjustable bed. This gives loads of floor space for luggage, sports equipment and everyday kit. It comes with two sleeping areas, cooker, fridge, dining area and swivel front seats.
There’s the choice of two roof beds – an elevating roof or a roof tent.
The roof tent option is the cheaper of the two options – starting at £19,995, while the pop-up roof option is £20,995. The conversions are all built to order in CampervanCo’s factory in Denny, near Glasgow.
We don’t want campervans to be sitting on the driveway for eight months out of 10, that’s a waste of resources and doesn’t realise the incredible benefits hybrids bring to reducing emissions.
I set my design team the challenge of designing a vehicle that was affordable but comes with all the essential such as cooking, fridge, sink, leisure battery, two bed areas, boot space, swivel seats, ULEZ compliance and can seat a family of five.
“It took us two whole years to develop the Escape while keeping the costs down. We wanted to make this high-tech but simple and affordable. Today we can announce ‘We did it’ by launching the Eco Escape. We are very proud to offer this all-round camper at such an affordable price.
Who is Campervanco?
CampervanCo introduced its first hybrid campervan in 2016 with the Eco Pioneer and last year launched the Eco Revolution, a totally zero-emissions, fully electric campervan.
