Somerset-based converter goes out of business

Award-winning campervan converter Autohaus appoints administrators

Award-winning campervan converter, Autohaus, has closed and called in administrators due to the “financial climate”.

The Somerset-based company produced almost 200 campervans a year at its Minehead-based factory.

But it has now ceased operating and its website no longer works. Acare Leisure, which trades as Autohaus, called in the administrator, Leonard Curtis, in February.

Customers and suppliers affected by the move will be contacted “shortly”.

What the company has said

We are very sorry to inform you that due to the financial climate Acare Leisure Ltd T/A Autohaus has ceased trading on 07/02/2025 and have appointed Leonard Curtis Insolvency Administrators.
We have explored every avenue to continue, but sadly without any luck. I wish all our customers many happy years of holidays and road trips, and to suppliers who have supported us a big thank you. The factory is now closed.

Statement from Autohaus

Award-winning campervan

Until recently, most of the Autohaus campervan range was built on VW Transporters but it had moved into alternative base vehicles, such as the Ford Transit Custom and Renault Trafic.

The new Ford-based Autohaus Spartan was named best pop-top campervan in the 2025 Out & About Live Campervan Awards.

Autohaus owner, Tony Payne, started out as a mobile caravan technician more than two decades ago. In 2007 he took up an offer to buy a small campervan conversion business for £10,000.

When he took over, Autohaus was building one or two models a year. In 2024 the company converted 187 units, mainly Volkswagens and Fords.
