WIGAN-based Nu Venture Motorhomes are unusual for a small converter in that they produce a range of coachbuilt motorhomes.
Even more unusual is that these are not run-of-the-mill models, but micro-motorhomes built on small van chassis like the Citroën Berlingo. The latest model, Moniche, uniquely takes advantage of Ford’s tough little Transit Connect.
Modest dimensions and car-like characteristics should make the Moniche comfortable and easy to drive, while driver’s airbag, radio/CD and electric windows grace the cab, which is entirely separate from the living quarters.
The 1.8-litre Duratorq turbo-diesel delivers a more than adequate 110bhp, driving the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. Entry to the caravan component is through a rear-located door that makes a convenient point of entry, on-site, in car parks and both sides of the English Channel.
The interior is dominated by a big, L-shaped lounge that is at once endearing and looks very comfortable. In use this space could accommodate up to six friends for drinks and nibbles – quite remarkable for such a small motorhome.
On the offside, a small side dinette is fine for two to dine and also includes a good occasional table, standing on its unobtrusive single leg. Picture windows on each side and a big Heki rooflight above mean good views and lots of natural light are always on offer, enhancing the feeling of space inside.
There’s no room for a full-blown washroom in the Moniche, but a full-height cupboard contains a swivel-bowl cassette loo that’s used with the door open and a privacy curtain closing off the rear.

Modest but capable kitchen
Opposite, on the nearside, the kitchen is modest but capable, with hob, grill and sink above a 60-litre fridge.
Cupboards above and below are joined by overhead lockers, a modest wardrobe and plenty of space under the sofas.
At night, a double or two single beds are easily made in the lounge. There’s no hot water on tap – without a full washroom this isn’t much of a problem – but blown-air heating courtesy of Truma is a standard fitment.
This is a ‘van designed to be lived in without all the paraphernalia sometimes associated with our hobby, as payload is modest and it’s not easy to fit a bike rack.
This is an interesting new model in the 'micro' market that also introduces a new base vehicle.
Summary:
Cute and car-like, the Moniche makes you want to like it as it offers an unexpectedly comfy lounge in so small a ‘van.
