Full Review
Moto-Trek may only have been making motorhomes for a couple of years, but its slide-outs were developed by its sister horsebox company Equi-Trek over a dozen years ago.
The X-Cite uses a Peugeot Boxer cab and an Al-Ko chassis, and the spec is higher than you might expect: front foglamps, alloy wheels, Bluetooth, cruise control, air-con, Hill Holder and ESC are all included.
The slide-out couldn’t be easier to use: you just press a switch inside the habitation door. Should all the 12V electrics fail, you can simply disconnect the motor and push the pod back in manually.
The garage has over a metre of internal height and twin loading doors.
Inside, it’s perfectly possible to use the X-Cite with the slide-out retracted. But with it extended the living area is transformed, with a floor space between the galley and the side settee that's 1.25m wide.
The X-Cite caters more than adequately for two people dining, but the cab seats swivel to provide on-site capacity for four.
With opening sunroofs over the cab and lounge there’s plenty of daylight, too. And you don’t need to resort to the Deluxe pack that includes a TV to get a great kitchen – one that has an oven/grill, microwave, AES fridge and a pop-up tower with three mains sockets. A worktop flap alongside the cooker is useful, too.
The washroom stands opposite a reasonable size of wardrobe with the Combi boiler in its base. The bathroom door closes off this area to create a changing zone. But the washroom door will not open past the wardrobe, so access to the shower and loo is not for the generously proportioned. But for an all-in-one bathroom, the X-Cite’s works quite well.
Better still is the rear bedroom, complete with large rear window, sprung mattress, luxurious headboard and well-placed reading lights.
Sadly, all that kit (and the slide-out) leaves a payload of just 250kg – not enough to take advantage of the generous garage. A 3,850kg chassis is an essential upgrade - and that will put the X-Cite beyond the remit of some buyers’ driving licences.
Our Verdict
The X-Cite’s slide-out transforms its interior and there’s a great deal of appeal to this high-spec motorhome, but in 3,500kg form it desperately needs more payload.
Advantages
Huge interior space
Comfortable bed
Well-equipped kitchen
Disadvantages
Small payload makes chassis upgrade almost inevitable
